Marshalltown graduating seniors have an opportunity to apply for a scholarship thanks to the generosity of Ray Helland and his family. The Harlietta Helland Memorial Scholarship was established to honor Ray’s wife who was well known in the Marshalltown Community for her involvement in the Morning Optimist club for over forty years. The mission for Optimists is “bringing out the best in kids”. Ray thought, “What better way to bring out the best than to help kids attend college”.
The Community Foundation of Marshall County (CFMC) worked with Ray and his sons to establish this fund so that financial support will be available for a very long time into the future. As the fund grows the amount to be awarded to students will also grow. Anyone who would like to add to the fund for scholarships may do so and would be eligible for the Endow Iowa 25% Tax Credit.
