By establishing an endowment, you plant a seed that will grow to benefit Marshall County forever. Endowments are invested over time with the earnings used to make gifts to the designated charities and address community needs. The endowment and all future earnings from the endowment are permanent sources of community capital.

Establishing an endowment makes a difference in the community now and provides a gift that will last forever. Grants will continue to be made in the name of the fund established so charitable wishes are preserved.

To ensure dollars for the future, the Community Foundation of Marshall County recommends an annual 5 percent distribution rate of dollars back to the community.

When you work with the Community Foundation of Marshall County to achieve your charitable goals, you benefit from the expertise of local, experienced staff. The Foundation matches you with the community causes you care deeply about and offers extensive knowledge about local charitable organizations and emerging community needs to help you make informed and impactful decisions about giving.

The Community Foundation of Marshall County through its partnership with the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines is a qualified community foundation that provides access to Endow Iowa Tax Credits. Endow Iowa allows taxpayers to receive a 25% Iowa tax credit in addition to normal federal charitable income tax deductions for certain charitable gifts.

  • A variety of gifts qualify for Endow Iowa Tax Credits including cash, real estate, appreciated securities and outright gifts of retirement assets.
  • Tax credits of 25% of the gifted amount are limited to $300,000 in tax credits per individual or $600,000 in tax credits per couple if both are Iowa taxpayers.
  • Eligible gifts will qualify for credits on a first-come/first-serve basis until the yearly appropriated limit is reached. If the current available Endow Iowa Tax Credits have been awarded, qualified donors will be eligible for the next year’s Endow Iowa Tax Credits. The Community Foundation encourages donors to act early in the year to ensure they receive Endow Iowa credits.
  • All qualified donors can carry forward the tax credit for up to five years after the year the donation was made.

We encourage donors to consult with tax advisors to review their individual circumstances.
