Marshalltown, Iowa, December 11, 2019: The Community Foundation of Marshall County (CFMC) is pleased to announce the 13th Street District is the grant recipient for the third 2019 funding cycle from the Rebuild Marshalltown Fund.  The $74,750 grant award is for a new open-air shelter, which can also be utilized as a performance space, replacing the shelter that was destroyed during the tornado. The shelter is a key component for phase one of the West End Park renovation project.

“This grant shows evidence of our commitment to not only rebuild Marshalltown, but to make it an even better place to live, learn, work and play.” said CFMC Executive Director Julie Hitchins.

The 2017 Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Plan identified the goals for West End Park which included updating facilities, encouraging community events, adding activities and social offerings, addressing safety and diversifying amenities. Damage from the July 2018 tornado offered the opportunity to make improvements to West End Park. Earlier year the 13th Street Committee in conjunction with the City of Marshalltown developed a comprehensive plan West End Park. The plans include healing gardens, walking trails and lighting, enhanced beautification and addressed infrastructure challenges with water drainage. The City of Marshalltown has committed $425,000 to this project.

The Rebuild Marshalltown Fund will accept letters of intent for three funding cycles in 2020.  Please visit the Community Foundation of Marshall County’s website at www.cfmarshallco.org for more specific information on the letter of intent process.
“We firmly believe the 13th Street District is a place where the spirit of our community really comes alive”, said Neil Dalal, 13th Street District board member. “The West End Park Project is a strategic partnership between the District and the City of Marshalltown. We are so grateful to the Rebuild Marshalltown Fund for this support!
